Overview
Communities in Contact has been funded by Border Action under Measure 3.1 "Civic & Community Networking" of the INTERREG IIIA programme. The aim of Communities in Contact in keeping with the aim of Measure 3.1 of INTERREG IIIA is to "create a sustainable cross border community infrastructure...that deepens the concept of partnership".

A successful partnership has been formed between Donegal Town Community Chamber and Strabane CWP for the joint delivery of the project in the Donegal Town and Strabane District areas until December 2006

Our mission is to:

"promote communication, co-ordination and the creation of innovative cross-border partnerships as a means of development and sustainability."

Aims & Objectives

The aims and objectives of Communities in Contact are to:

  • Promote cross-border community networking and the creation of a sustainable cross-border community infrastructure through the formation of a network of 40 community & voluntary groups from the Donegal Town and Strabane District areas.
  • Facilitate contact between participating groups, increase their opportunities for engagement, build their confidence in liasing with each other and promote partnership building by administering a Small Grants Programme that funds joint cross border activities.
  • Provide a mechanism for accessing and sharing information, exchanging ideas, transferring knowledge and skills that promotes innovative approaches to cross-border networking. To reduce peripherality in border, rural areas, build confidence and capacity for development and encourage the creation of sustainable cross-border partnerships through the development of a Communities in Contact website.
  • Build capacity for developing and sustaining community business ideas and to support the development of the Social Economy through a cross-border Community Enterprise Programme.
