The highly successful project was set up as a training facility for adults with learning disabilities to teach both catering skills and general employment skills. The premises are owned by the North West Institute, which offers training in terms of an NVQ Catering and Basic Food Hygiene. The catering project was funded by the Community Foundation for Northern Ireland, Strabane Local Strategy Partnership, the Foyle Trust, the North West branch of the Health Service Executive, and the Sperrin Lakeland Trust.
The barbeque that took place was supported by the Communities in Contact project ñ a cross-border community networking initiative managed by Strabane CWP and Donegal Town Community Chamber and funded by ADM/CPA under Measure 3.1 of the INTERREG IIIA Programme. Staff and trainees of The Cleary Centre, Donegal Town and The Dartry Delights Coffee Shop, Kinlough attended the event. Both New Horizons, Strabane and The Cleary Centre, Donegal Town are participants in the Communities in Contact project which aims to facilitate the creation of cross border partnerships between groups in the Strabane District and Donegal Town areas.
The Big Steak Barbeque was also sponsored by T-Junction, Calor Gas, the First Trust Bank, Castle Fresh Foods in Castlederg, Devineπs Family Butchers, Melmount Foods and Cecil Darragh Marquees. |
